It Won’t Last

This weekend, 500 paratroopers will arrive in Milan, equipped with drones and armoured vehicles to use against demonstrators. For that fine gentleman Crosetto, it’s a pity they’ll only be providing support. No weapons, what a shame.

Belpietro is also unhappy because his brilliant idea is that demonstrations should be held against those who demonstrate. Basically, a civil war.

For that thickhead Capezzone, the chaos of these past few days is a challenge to Italy because, as far as he is concerned, the government represents all of Italy.

In reality, in its best days, it represented only 17 per cent of the entire population.

Fortunately, amid all this confusion, we are guided by an original and profound thought from Massimo D’Alema: violence does not play into the hands of those who protest. Good grief, who would ever have thought it?

There is, however, no need to worry. We have Nordio the club-wielding thug, as Repubblica calls him, that human replica of existing laws who wants to build new prisons for minors. As if the prison situation in Italy were already perfectly under control. And what about the children who cannot be accommodated in the juvenile prisons that already exist? They go into adult prisons. And so they come out abused and criminals for life, as someone like Cristina Maggia, president of the Juvenile Court of Brescia, would say. All that’s missing is the criminal offence of “being young”, says the judge.

In reality, after four years in power, this government has moved from kleptocracy to kratocracy and has finally arrived at fascist tyranny. The only thing these nasty people are capable of doing is ignoring, banning, repressing and, when demonstrations take place, beating people up and arresting them, even if they are children.

Take a good look at the La Russas and the Salvinis. What did you think you could expect from these characters? During the election campaign, Meloni promised the earth and the sky. The videos now resurfacing prove it. Once in government, not only did she fail to keep any of her promises, but she also exposed herself as a liar, all by herself, in new and embarrassing videos.

Meloni is desperate. She thought she could charm Italians by dressing elegantly at our expense, raising her voice during debates and refusing to show up for press interviews. This crafty little operator believed she was loved and respected by the entire “globe terrestre”. Instead, apart from the fake ass-kissers on her computers, everyone is tearing into her. They’ve seen through her, and so she is banking on an iron fist.

But this story will not end well. We are leaving young people a dirty, corrupt, polluted, unjust and cruel world. We have made them believe that their only goal must be money, that the rich are happy, that consuming is such a wonderful thing, that strength and sheer arrogance must be our only weapons, and that there is no point in studying anyway, since AI knows everything, better than Dad.

But have we really succeeded? I don’t think so. Without a shred of shame, we have shown them that you can kill an unarmed man, that you can take his home away from him, that you can shoot children in the head and invade other countries without facing sanctions.

And so we have made ourselves utterly disgusting in their eyes.

But in this fascist Italy, if someone protests because they cannot make it to the end of the month, because they have no right to a job, a home, education, healthcare or security, if they protest even silently, politely, no one listens. They try to sew their mouths shut, and if they protest more loudly, then the beatings and prison follow.

All this shit, I am convinced, will not last much longer.

After the Second World War, we enjoyed too much freedom to be willing to give it up today.
